Lice Treatment Information

A recommended method to break up the life cycle of life is the Wet-Combing Method. Head lice cannot become resistant to this method and all you need is a good comb and some hair conditioner to be successful. Olive oil, Vaseline, mayonnaise or tea tree oil will work just as well, but hair conditioner is a lot easier to wash out afterwards!

This method is most successful when working with a good quality comb. Look for a comb that has metal teeth at least 2″ long. The teeth are rigid, cannot be bent easily and the handle is sealed into the teeth of the comb. Good combs will save you hours of nitpicking. The LiceMeister comb will take them out even if you can’t see them.

Passing of KGMS Founder Anne Rushforth

We are so sorry to inform you that the founder of our school has died.  Forty years ago, Anne Rushforth took the first step in establishing a school that met the needs of children like our own. A registered nurse by training, she immersed herself in what was then known about how children like ours learn.  From the start, she emphasized a phonics based reading program, the use of multi-sensory techniques, daily one-on-one tutoring and the development of self-confidence.  As you know, these are core to the school’s learning environment today.

Recently, Anne was the subject of a video in honour of our school’s fortieth year.  It was screened at our recent Gala and can be viewed below.

Parent Education Night - April 27

Join Lu Ripley for our next Parent Ed Night about Mindfulness.  It will take place from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Library on Thursday, April 27th.

Lu Ripley is a KGMS parent, who also works in the mental health field.  She began meditating about 20 years ago, and has found it a valuable tool for finding some ease as a parent, particularly dealing with issues that arise with a child who has invisible “special needs.”    Lu teaches mindfulness to service providers and youth as part of her paid work and has experience in both secular and Buddhist traditions.  In this participatory session, we will explore what mindfulness is, and try it out! No pressure, no expectations.  Come and check it out and find out what the “mindfulness” buzz is about!
